Search engine optimization (SEO) can be a bit of a humdrum topic. But it is literally the lifeblood of your eCommerce site to carry traffic where you want it to go. One of the most powerful tools in boosting SEO rankings is- you guessed it – eCommerce video!
Your default video player is probably YouTube. But when adding content to YouTube you’re basically telling Google you want to drive traffic there. Even if your YouTube video is embedded on your site it doesn’t really help your site ranking all that much.
So here are a few easy tips to help boost your product page SEO with eCommerce video:
Pick the right video player
Find a video player that embeds on your site and will pass on that sweet, sweet SEO juice. We’re big fans of Wistia. Wistia is a really beautiful, intuitive video player designed for business.
Naming and Keywords
So upload your eCommerce video to video to Wistia and title it with a keyword you want to rank for. Something like “Best Blender for Mixed Drinks” is great. Choose a thumbnail for the video that is eye-catching and gets people to click.
Embedding the Video
Then embed it on the product page so its prominent. Don’t hide it in the photo gallery. Embed it within your product description.
Now that you’ve integrated the player into the product page you’re signalling to Google that you have native eCommerce video content on that page, which they like. And it will identify exactly what that content is with titles, tags, descriptions, and captions all automatically injected by Wistia.
Pretty nice, right?
Ultimately you want Google to rank your content in the video carousel when people search for your keywords. That way your eCommerce video is at the top of the search funnel and the click though leads straight to your product page.
